I had the pleasure and honor to know Derek through the MGG cycling group and Derek participated in many rides including Ann Arbor, Kensington and the Ride of Silence events. I am appreciative of the support that he always showed for the group and he was an excellent cyclist and joy to talk with. He will be missed :-( I am posting the photo of the 2024 Ride of Silence that Derek participated in. May you have nothing but a tail wind up there in Heaven, Derek.

I was somewhat shocked to hear of Derek’s passing but hearing of the health issue thst he just went through I suppose there is some relief in the end of suffering. I worked with Derek over the last 10 years at HRC and was always amazed at his knowledge of wetland plants and stream geomorphology. He certainly made a positive contribution to all of the projects that we worked on together.
