Mary Anne Battistini

Mrs. Maryanne Burke Battistini, age 96, of Essexville Michigan, and formerly of Merrillville, Highland and Avon Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 8. She was born December 31, 1929 in Terre Haute, Indiana, to William and Mary (Richard) Burke. She married Lawrence Battistini on December 26, 1952 at St. Benedict’s Church in Terre Haute.

Maryanne and Larry raised four children, Peter (Carol) of Avon, Paula of Lansing, Michigan, Patricia (Steve) of Essexville, Michigan, and Patrick (Marnie) of Santa Clarita, California. She also had six grandchildren, Katie, Maggie (fiancé Brendan), Maggie (James), Stephanie, Burke, and Matthew; and four great-grandchildren, Raelynn, Abby, Ellie, and Annalyssa. Larry preceded her in death in 2018.

Maryanne was a 1947 graduate of Terre Haute’s Wiley High School and went on to Indiana State University to pursue a career in education. As a longtime educator, first as an elementary school teacher, she later returned to school and earned certification as a high school guidance counselor. She enjoyed keeping in touch with many of her former students.

In retirement, she became active in many nonprofit organizations, volunteering her time with the Chi Omega sorority, Northwest Indiana Symphony’s May Wine Brunch and Festival of Trees, Power Paws, and also with the Red Hat Society’s Octoberfests.

She also authored three books. The first, Hometown Potpourri, was a story of growing up in Terre Haute. And based on her love for animals, she wrote Tales That Wag and Lacey’s Story.

Services for Maryanne Battistini will be private. Memorial donations can be made in her name to the Hendricks County Humane Society at www.hendrickshumane.org.
