David Lawrence Galbreath, 82, passed away in his sleep on March 22, 2026. He was born January 3, 1944 to parents Lawrence and Rhea Mae (Forman) Galbreath. David graduated from Oscoda High School in 1962 and Central Michigan University in 1966 with a Bachelors in Business Administration. He married Carol Marie VanWormer March 12, 1966, and they were married 56 years raising 2 children, Angela and Mark. David always was all about family, being a great provider, and togetherness with family and friends.
David was recruited by General Motors after college graduation and began his life long career with GM living in Michigan, Texas, and West Virginia over a work span of 37 years. He managed several hundred employees and was well liked on both sides – union and salaried staff alike. David retired as a Superintendent of GM in 2003.
During his life, he volunteered with countless agencies such as United Way, Kiwanis, Elks, Lions Club, YMCA, Rotary, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Special Olympics, Pikeview Acres HOA in West Virginia, and most recently the Lake Ogemaw Summer Resort Association Treasurer and/or President for more than a decade. David and Carol Galbreath began many of the great Lake Ogemaw activities for residents and their families that still exist today.
He is survived by his daughter, Angela M. Frye and grandson, David G. Frye in addition to his daughter-in-law, Stephanie Galbreath and 3 grandchildren, Luke and Kyle Galbreath, Katie Galbreath Smith, husband Neil Smith, and great grandson, Mark Tatum Smith. David is also survived by his sister, Judy Mae Galbreath Tucker married to Charlie Tucker, and niece, Lisa M. Collins and nephew, Lauren Curley married to Lori Curley. David is also survived by his sister-in-law, Linda VanWormer and children Casey and Rip VanWormer.
