Obituary of Andrew Raymond Loyer
Please share a memory of Andrew to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Andrew Raymond Loyer passed away on February 2, 2025, at the age of 61 at Hurley Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family after a valiant four-year battle with ALS. Funeral information will be available at a later date.
Born June 20, 1963, in Alpena, Michigan, Andrew was the middle child of George and Merry Lou Loyer. Andrew grew up on a dairy farm where (if you ask him) he did most of the chores. From a young age he was involved in local and school sports. He grew up alongside his six siblings Cynthia, Amy, George, Merry, Gail, and Jason. His life was enriched by the values and traditions passed down from his grandparents, George and Bessie Loyer, and George and Mary Parent, all of whom predeceased him.
He met the love of his life, Kimberly Hrcka (through an introduction by his brother Jason), and together they built a beautiful life centered around their two sons, Logan and Kaleb. Andrew enjoyed introducing his sons to various sports and sharing his love of golf with them. Andrew's joy expanded with the birth of his granddaughter, Sage.
Andrew was a man of many talents. He was known for being exceptionally handy, a trait that served him well both professionally and personally. He was a salesman at Central Michigan Lumber, owned his own business as a rough frame carpenter, but his life’s passion was farming. He started out on the family dairy farm where he learned how to milk, plant, harvest, fix machinery, etc. Eventually he bought land in Otisville and became a crop farmer. He continued to farm until he could no longer physically handle the demands. He enjoyed time spent talking with his dad and brother Jason about what crops to plant, what fertilizer to use, when to harvest, and when to sell. He enjoyed all their quality conversations. He was happiest when he was farming even when equipment broke down. He was skilled at fixing most anything.
Outside of work, Andrew's passion was being an outdoorsman. He was an avid golfer, where he loved to compete with the course or anyone on it. He tried to teach these skills to his wife Kimberly so they could enjoy his favorite hobby together. Hunting and fishing were a way of life, offering him precious moments of solitude and connection with nature (and a freezer of meat). His dad inspired him to try his hand at beekeeping and maple syrup production, a very sweet idea!
Andrew was not afraid of any challenge. This was never more evident than the way he took on his battle with ALS. With all the challenges that having ALS presents, he NEVER complained. He faced them with dignity. His legacy is not only in the work of his hands but in the countless lives he touched with his witty spirit.
Andrew's family will cherish their memories of him and will carry forward the lessons of love, perseverance, and kindness he embodied. His presence will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace, Andrew, until we meet again. To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com Arrangements made with the Cremation Society of Mid Michigan.
