Obituary of Jeffrey Lee Oswald

Jeffrey Lee Oswald was born on March 16, 1959 in Midland, MI. He quietly departed this life on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at his home in Hope, MI. He was preceded in death by two sons, Micheal Alan and Adam Matthew Oswald; brother, Gary Devericks; parents, William and Goldie (Brownell) Oswald; grandparents, William and Geneva (Weaver) Oswald and Benjamin and Anna (Long) Brownell; brother-in-law, and dear friend Gordon Paul.

When Jeff was 22, he relocated to Florida and it was there that he met his bride, Averil Alaine Roberts. The two were married on March 14,1986 in Bradenton and their family grew soon after. Jeff worked in the Marine Industry as a laminator for names like SpinDrift, WellCraft (Sarasota), Chris-Craft, Four Winns, Scarab and Groupe Beneteau, to name a few. Jeff remained a dedicated employee until he was diagnosed with cancer in 2014 and took an early retirement. By 2019 he had beat the cancer and was officially in remission. 

Jeff had a love for motorcycles and riding with his friends. He enjoyed dirt bikes, concerts, and watching NASCAR, specifically driver #3 Dale Earnhardt Sr. He enjoyed many races in both Florida and Michigan with his family and friends. He was a leisurely fisherman but an avid hunter, he made sure to meet the boys at the field for every deer harvest he could. One of his favorite things was opening day breakfast with his friends and visiting the Marion Buck Pole. He loved taking his family camping and visiting camping family members across Michigan in his later years. He was a family man, a loving father and active grandfather. He loved family vacations to Florida with his son Robert, watching U of M Football with his son Sean and he loved attending his grandson’s baseball games. He wouldn’t miss the baseball games for anything.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Averil Oswald of Hope; sons, Anthony (Nicole) Walters of Mackinac City, Robert (Megan) Oswald of Cadillac, and Sean (Kayla Park) Oswald of Evart. His grandchildren, Kaitlynn and Hannah Walters, Kristen, Alexis, Lucas and Jillian Foster, Dane Maury, Olliver and River Oswald, Nicholas and Jayce Verlotti, and Kayden and Addalynn Oswald also survive him. In addition, he is survived by his siblings, Becky (Paris Wiley) Brenner; Alberta Courtney, Bill (Dawn) Oswald, Craig (Barb) Oswald, Krenda (Lloyd) Jewell, Barb (Chris) Martin and many special cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

His presence in this life will be genuinely missed and his memory will be cherished forever. ~
