Obituary of Andrew Kenneth Malowinski
Andrew Kenneth Malowinski, affectionately known as Andy, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 17, 2025, in his hometown of Bay City, MI, after a courageous battle with stomach cancer. Born on December 23, 1954, to Edmund and Bernice (Bostick) Malowinski, Andy's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, his passion for his work, and his love for the simple joys of life.
Andy's journey began in Bay City, where he grew up cultivating a strong work ethic and an even stronger sense of community. He completed his high school education before furthering his skills in trade school, laying the foundation for a successful career that would span decades. Andy was known for his resourcefulness and his hands-on approach to life, which led him to become a respected ship hand at Defoe Shipping.
With an entrepreneurial spirit, Andy founded Andy's Repair Service, where he applied his technical expertise to help countless customers. His reputation for honesty and quality workmanship was unmatched. Andy also served as a senior technician at Montgomery Wards and Sears Roebuck, where his colleagues admired him for his professionalism and camaraderie. He retired in 2016, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and dedication in the workforce.
Andy's life was not all work; he found great joy in his many interests and hobbies. He was a passionate baseball coach, devoting countless hours to mentoring and cheering on his sons and their teams. His love for music and concerts was well-known, as was his enthusiasm as a train enthusiast and motorcycle fanatic. A devoted fan of the Lion's football team, Andy never missed a game and often shared this excitement with his fellow fans. Camping trips were a favorite family activity, allowing Andy to share his love for the outdoors with those he held dear.
Above all, Andy cherished every moment spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought immense joy and laughter into his life. His loving wife of 30 years, Jani Malowinski, stood by his side through every chapter of their life together. Together they raised a beautiful, blended family that included three sons, Nathan (Rachel) Malowinski, Evan (Becca) Malowinski, Quinn Malowinski; two stepsons, Stephen and Theodore Hockman; and an adopted daughter, Heidi Hockman. Andy's legacy continues through his grandchildren, Alexandrea, Victoria, Chase, Maverick, and Eliana, who will remember their grandfather's boundless love and support.
Andy's life was also enriched by the presence of a special family member, Thanayi Lawson, who brought additional warmth and affection into his heart. He is survived by his siblings, Rose (Joe) Gibelyou and Robert Malowinski, who will remember their brother with fondness and deep appreciation for the memories they shared.
Preceding Andy in death were his parents, Edmund and Bernice Malowinski; his brother, Joey Malowinski; and Diane Malowinski, the mother of his children. His departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will live on through the love he shared and the lives he touched.
Andy's life was a testament to the strength of familial bonds, the joy of lifelong learning, and the importance of following one's passions. As we say goodbye to a man of great character and kindness, we celebrate the life of Andrew Kenneth Malowinski—a life well-lived and filled with love.
