Obituary of Mindy Joy Turmell

Mindy Joy Turmell, age 53, of Midland, MI (formerly of Bay City, MI) passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of February 18, 2025 after a hard fought battle with leukemia.  

Mindy was born on October 15, 1971 to the late Marvin W (Bill) Stukel and Patricia Padilla (Rose).

Mindy married young and had three children that she cherished. She worked for Dr. Hafford for over 15 years as a Medical Assistant. Mindy became the "second mom" to a lot of kids while her children were growing up, just like her mom before her. Mindy reconnected with her high school love, Dennis, in 2009. They were married on November 13 the same year. Mindy spent the last 15 years of her life with her soul mate and their blended family.

Mindy enjoyed many things; she taught herself how to make jewelry, gardening, playing with her grandbabies, riding on the back of her hubby's motorcycle, camping with her friends, dancing, crafting, partaking in the enjoyment of flower and a good laugh, and telling people to "f**k off!" (Also known affectionately as the call of the "Michigan Red Bird").

Mindy was deeply loved by many people, using her own goofiness to bring people out of their shells. Known by lots as "Red," Mindy was a firecracker who wouldn't hesitate to tell you that you were on her shit list, with love of course. She was also the first person to tell you that she loved you and to greet you with a hug.

Mindy is survived by her husband, Dennis L. Turmell Jr; daughters Allison (Nathaniel) Blair, Jessica Spegel, Sarah (David) Swanson; sons Tyler Spegel, Max Stukel, Matthew (Haley) Turmell; grandchildren Ella Dirker, Lola Cherwinski, Charlotte Swanson, Emma Stoddard, Greyson, Fynn, and Charlotte Turmell; close cousins Mickey, Chloe, and Kimmy; special friends Jenny, Becca, Joe, Shawn, Brian, and Darren; and many, many other family and friends.

She was predeceased in death by her parents, Bill and Pat, her sister Marnie, and her twin siblings Leslie and Douglas.
