Daniel Rae

Obituary of Daniel Halsey Rae

Daniel Halsey Rae, had embarked on his final journey on March 18, 2025, in Saginaw, Michigan. Born on April 19, 1950, in Toledo, Ohio. His parents were Elizabeth Feighner of Fremont Ohio and Edward James Rae of Toledo Ohio.

Marcia Lou Rae, was Daniel's beloved wife since March 1981. Together, they raised a family that was not just connected by blood but by the joy they all brought in their lives. His sons, daughter, and extended family including Michael & Angie Wetherell with grandchildren Skylar, Tovia, and Gavin (and remembering the pre-deceased Lovely Lily). Barry Wetherell, grandson Caleb Tippen & Barry's fiancée Mellisa Dickerson with her son Alexander. They all brought laughter to his life; Danny Jr Rae; Kimberly (Smith) with Gary Grimes, and our grandsons Brandon and Jordan Thornton, with wonderful memories of Justin, who left us far too soon with DSRCT.

Daniel was survived by his brothers, Douglas (and his wife Darlene- she left us too soon) and Duncan Rae with Lori, his girlfriend and their families. Daniel was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah and Susan. He cherished his nieces and nephews. Unfortunately - tragically Mary had drowned in Sanford Lake and Dale died in a motorcycle accident.

Dan had an older half-brother Dale Bonnell and Judy (deceased), and niece Milissa Schmantowsky.

Daniel's work life was interesting. From painting water towers and bridges- no heights were too high. His employment ranged from culinary delights as a chef, from steering a taxi through the Black Hills in South Dakota. After returning to Michigan he delivered both the Wall Street Journal and Midland Daily News until his health started to deteriorate. His hobbies included flying planes, family game nights, antique cars, old black and white movies plus his love of music of all kinds. Daniel often spoke of his love for history.

Daniel had an infectious smile that could light up a room and his naughty snickering that could bring out a belly laugh.

Daniel's life was a mosaic of moments that, when pieced together, revealed a portrait of a man who was as loving as he was loved. He faced his final adversaries—chronic infections, peripheral vascular disease, congestive heart failure, and coronary artery disease—with the same courage and humor that characterized his entire life. Daniel's legacy is one of laughter and love as a well-played hand of cards or a shared family meal.

As we bid farewell to Daniel, let's not say goodbye but rather, "Until we meet again," for the stories he leaves behind are the kind that echo through generations. His life was well-lived, a game well-played, and a laugh that will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. Daniel Halsey Rae, the man who could find fun in the most mundane, who lived with his heart on his sleeve and a twinkle in his eye. He will be missed and remembered with smiles as bright as the stars he enjoyed .   To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com  Arrangements made with the Cremation Society of Mid Michigan.
