Obituary of Cynthia Kay LaFave
Cynthia Kay LaFave, age 73 passed away peacefully on April 26th, 2025, surrounded by family at Brian’s House in Bay City, Michigan. She was born on December 25th, 1951, in Bay City, Michigan, to the late Harold “Bud” and Norma (Guenther) LaFave.
Cindy was a fierce, independent, and generous woman. Throughout her life, she touched countless people and is leaving everyone with fond memories. She spent most of her adult life in the Hartford, Connecticut area. After a long career as the executive assistant to the President of Bond & Specialty Insurance for Travelers Insurance Company, she retired. She was a Connecticut-licensed bartender and also worked part-time at the popular Fernwood Restaurant in West Hartford. The circle of friends she made in Connecticut quickly became like her family, and she was blessed to have them by her side.
Cindy had a gift for making everyone around her feel seen, heard, and deeply valued. Whether it was through her warm conversations, thoughtful gestures, or unwavering support, she built a lifetime of strong, lasting connections. Cindy was an avid runner who participated in and won many races throughout her life. She was also an enthusiastic host and enjoyed traveling. Cindy’s other passion was dogs, and she found great joy in dog walking and sitting. What really made Cindy special was her wicked sense of humor. She could have everyone in tears in a matter of minutes with her quick wit and silly jokes.
One of Cindy’s greatest joys came from the beautiful time spent with her loved ones. She was very close with her beloved parents. Cindy was a caregiver and best friend to her siblings, and she had a special place in her heart for all of her nieces and nephews. To them, she was not just an aunt but a mentor, confidante, and a source of endless love and encouragement.
She is survived by brothers, Jeffrey (Michele) LaFave, Henry (Janet) LaFave, of Bay City, and brother John LaFave of Traverse City; nieces and nephews, Paul LaFave, Sarah (Brian Stelter) Anderson, Ben (Nilou) Anderson, Leigh (Kevin) Sullivan, Paige (Jarrod Starkey) LaFave, and Grant LaFave; great-nieces & nephews, Hazel Stelter, Lyra Anderson, Colin & Sloane Sullivan; and longtime friend, Dave Phillips. Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Norma (Guenther) LaFave. Any memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Foundation, or your local Humane Society or animal shelter.
