Obituary of Bernard Wayne Rottiers

Bernard Wayne Rottiers, known affectionately as Bernie to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025, at the age of 84 in Holly, Michigan. Born on September 4, 1940, in Saginaw, Michigan, Bernie was a man whose warm spirit and generous heart touched the lives of many.

He is survived by his devoted wife of over 60 years, Martha E. Rottiers (Daoust).  Bernie and Marty started with their family in Bridgeport, Michigan and then moved to Lake Station, Michigan where they enjoyed their retirement.  He is survived by children Bernie Rottiers, Jr., and daughter Ellen Amicone (Antonio), as well as his cherished grandchildren, Roxanne Pollard (Kyle), Kaitlyn Black (Brandon), and Alex Young (Genevieve). His legacy continues to shine through his great-grandchildren Isabella, Viviana, Elliott, Weston, and Wesley. Bernie is also lovingly remembered by his sister Jane Ann Bowns and prior daughter-in-law, Shawn Rottiers.  Bernie was also a dog lover and was predeceased by Morgan, Holly, Millie I, Millie II and Lillie.  He also has many grand dogs who loved his pets – Stella, Clutch and Siena.

Bernie's career as a body man and painter in the auto industry was a testament to his craftsmanship. His hands were skilled, and his work ethic was unmatched, traits that earned him respect. Beyond his professional life, Bernie remained an active and engaged member of the Lake Station community, where he and Marty made their home for over 35 years. He was a familiar face at many community events, contributing his time and energy to make his neighborhood a better place for all.

Bernie coached his sons’ little league teams when he was younger.  Whether he was hunting, fishing, or playing a round of golf, these hobbies were more than pastimes; they were the avenues through which Bernie enjoyed friends and family.

As we say goodbye to Bernie, we celebrate a life well-lived filled with love, laughter, and the courage to face each day with optimism. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his influence will continue to be felt by the generations that follow. Bernie Rottiers was more than a man; he was the strength of his family, a steadfast friend, and a pillar of his community. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
