James Wisner

Obituary of James Howard Wisner

James Howard Wisner " Jim" of Midland, Michigan (formerly of Lapeer / Mayville) passed away May 3, 2025.

He was born November 26, 1933 to the late Bert Calhoun and Edith McAllister Wisner in Oakland County, Michigan.

Jim spent his youth living between Bad Axe, Oakland County and Midland, Michigan. It was during his time spent in Midland that he met the love of his life, Shirley Ann Spangler. He and Shirley married on October 30, 1956.

He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957 to be stationed in Ft. Leonard, MO. After this he returned to Midland to join his wife where they resided until 1963 to return to Oakland County. It was during this time that he obtained his builder's license and began his contracting company "Sur-Rite-Roofing" which he traveled throughout the state, allowing him to enjoy his love of being outdoors and traveling.

His love of the outdoors brought him to buy property and move his family to Mayville, Michigan where he constructed a home with the help of friends and family to reside for many years. Jim eventually moved to Lapeer to "semi-retire" to become a snowbird for him and family to enjoy a home in Deltona, Florida allowing him to enjoy many winters traveling back and forth to Michigan.

He enjoyed gardening, flea market finds, car shows (especially the cars of his childhood) sharing stories of the "old days" with friends and family and making new memories along the way.

He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Wisner (fiancee Brad Guettler), Special nieces Colleen (Tom) VanSlambrouck, Vivian Glesner, Deb Holcomb, Roxanne (Bob) Letts who spent time to comfort him during his time at Stratford Pines, his beloved companion Benjie whom he loved dearly over the years along with other family and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Shirley of 62 years, sister Margaret Williams and brother Bert Calhoun.
