Obituary of Frederick Armin Alexander
Frederick 'Fred' A. Alexander, Pinconning, Michigan, age 79, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at his home with his family by his side. He was a cherished family man and respected community member. He was born April 29, 1946, in Bay City, Michigan, to William and Ellamae (Fitzmaurice) Alexander. Fred was united in marriage to his loving wife, Sandra Layman, on January 20, 1968, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, in Bay City. Together they raised two daughters and had four grandsons.
Fred was employed at Northern Tube in Pinconning for 32 years where he held many union offices, including President of UAW Local 1134. After a year off his wife encouraged him into sub bus driving, where he shortly became transportation supervisor for over 20 years for Pinconning Area Schools. He loved spending time with his family, watching his Michigan sports teams, and going to the Turtle Creek Casino, in Traverse City. He hated dandelions and it was his life mission not to let one in his yard. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, in Pinconning.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy, his daughters Robin (Daniel) Schafer and Tracey Bauer, grandsons Kiefer, Kyle, Kalub and Christopher, siblings Robert (Eileen) Alexander, Bridget Rhyndress, and David Alexander, sisters-in-law Lillian Alexander and Lisa Alexander, and brother-in-law Edward Goodroe. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Joseph, Franklin, Michael and William Alexander, his sister Mary Goodroe, his brother-in-law Theodore Rhyndress, and his nephew James Rhyndress.
