Ardyss (Granrath) Johnson, age 94, of Bay City, MI, passed away on June 8, 2025, at Bay Shores Senior Care surrounded by her loving family. Ardyss was born and raised in West Allis, Wisconsin.  She was the daughter of Luella (Flora) and Earl Granrath. She moved to Bay City with the love of her life, S. Douglas Johnson, to raise their family.

Ardyss was a daughter, a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, a seamstress and a wonderful cook, a skill passed on to all her children. She was also a wordsmith, loving the English language and writing special poems for her loved ones. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, word searches and reading books.  Her favorite saying was “I am silently correcting your grammar.”

She began her career as a copywriter. She retired from WNEM TV 5 after 28 years as the Continuity Director. She also worked for WKNX Radio and TV 25. She was a pioneer in a traditionally male dominated field of television.

She is survived by four children: Stacy McIntyre, Kris Stadalsky (Mark), Jill Johnson (Duane Johns, deceased) and Dan Johnson (Jessica); and two brothers, Gary Granrath (Jill) and Dick Granrath (Val, deceased).

She is survived by 10 grandchildren, whom she had special relationships with: Pete Stadalsky (Amy Logan), Steve Stadalsky (Jakob Landa), Trisha Charbonneau-Ivey (Mark Ivey), Krystle Charbonneau, Jacqueline Johnson (Ronnie Krause), Zachary Johnson (Kimberley), Alexia Johnson (Sean Hixson), Brandon Johnson (Hannah), Christina Mitchell and Tim Mitchell. 

She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.

Ardyss was preceded in death by her husband S. Douglas and son Doug (Pauline). 

Ardyss will be remembered for her outgoing nature, her love of family, her creativity and unique sense of style.

Cremation has taken place in accordance with her wishes. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Hyatt-Ewald Funeral Home, 700 N. Monroe, Bay City, Michigan, 48708. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to Golden Horizons Adult Day Center, Bay City, MI.
