James McQuaid

Obituary of James Glenn McQuaid

The last checkered flag waved on August 28, 2025 for James Glenn “Jim” McQuaid, age 73, who passed away peacefully at his home in Zilwaukee, Michigan after a short battle with cancer. Born on August 18, 1952, in Saginaw, Michigan. Jim lived a life fueled by passion, friendship, and horsepower.

Jim dedicated over three decades of his life to Malleable Iron GM, where he worked with commitment and pride until his retirement in 2000 after 33 years of service. His work ethic and dedication left a lasting impression on those who knew him during his career.

A true enthusiast of all things powered by race fuel and burning rubber, Jim was never happier than when surrounded by the roar of engines and the scent of exhaust. His adventurous side led him to the thrill of drag racing, both cars and dune buggies. Throughout the years, he looked forward to Labor Day weekends, attending the NHRA U.S. National races in Indianapolis. He also enjoyed participating in countless car shows, and was a proud member of the Highway Classic Cruisers Car Club. Jim had a deep love for tinkering with his prized vehicles—his beloved 1967 Camaro and 1986 Cutlass Supreme were more than just cars; they were extensions of his spirit. His garage became a cherished gathering place every Wednesday with his closest friends—a tradition that brought joy and camaraderie to many.

He also found joy in snowmobiling through Michigan winters, camping at Alcona State Park, and competing in bowling tournaments—especially the King of the Hill competitions where he showcased both skill and sportsmanship. Whether being outdoors fishing, fine-tuning an engine, rooting for the Lions, Tigers, and Wolverines, or just relaxing in his favorite chair watching Motor Trend and American Pickers, Jim approached every hobby with enthusiasm and heart.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Misty McQuaid; Longtime partner of 25 years and caregiver, Gale Le Blanc and her daughter, Tamara Le Blanc; Sisters, Leigh Ann Parks (Dave Shands) and Jacklyn Burkhart (Fred); Nephews, Steve Parks (Anisa) and Jonathan Parks (Ashley); Special friends, Jack Diaz, Rick Meisel, and mother of his daughter, Sally McQuaid. Their lives were enriched by Jim's quick wit, sarcastic humor, and unwavering loyalty to those close to him.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard “Mickey” and Donna (Sieggreen) McQuaid.

His legacy lives on in the memories shared among family and friends—in stories told around garage benches, car show gatherings, and over Old Town Drive-Ins coney dogs and root beer. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
