Obituary of Douglas James Laur
Douglas James Laur, age 68, passed away at his home August 30, 2025 following a brief but valiant fight with cancer. He was born in Bay City on April 24,1957 to the late George and Vera Laur. Doug worked many years as a communication technician and recently retired from CTI Communications in Flint. Doug was an avid fan of the Detroit Lions and never missed a game. He also liked to listen to the Tigers on the radio while sitting on his porch. He prided himself on his meticulous care of his lawn and porch flowers, which everyone commented on as a show piece. He also was an electronics “gadget” lover, and had all of the newest “toys” as he called them, that came out. Up North was Doug’s home away from home. Just the mention of Mackinaw, the UP, Leelanau and Ludington and he was ready to go explore with Jeanne. He referred to himself as “a driving fool”. Books and music were his passion having been to countless concerts in his lifetime. Frank Zappa was one of his favorites.
Doug is survived by the love of his life, his wife Jeanne, and they just celebrated 20 years of marriage. Also surviving are his sisters, Sue (Jim) Kusmierz and Kathy Dean; brothers-in-law, Bruce (Bernie) Piechowiak and Dave (Carol) Piechowiak; eight nieces and nephews, and eight great-nieces and nephews. Also, best friends, Dan Duso, Joe Tacey, John Sheneman, and Al Senk; and his special aunt, Judy; and many more. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, George and Vera Laur; mother and father-in-law, Eugene and Florence Bujarski; brother in-law, Jon Peichowiak; and sister in-law, Patte Friedrich.
Cremation has taken place per Doug’s wishes and a celebration of his life will be held at a future date. To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com Arrangements made with the Cremation Society of Mid Michigan.
