Obituary of Joseph Alexander Garvin
Joseph Alexander Garvin, was a man whose life was a testament to faith, service, and unwavering devotion to family. Born on February 13, 1959, in Saginaw, Michigan, Joe peacefully entered into eternal rest on September 11, 2025, in the comfort of his home after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.
A man of deep Catholic faith, Joe’s spiritual life was central to who he was. He shared meaningful moments in mass with family, offered heartfelt prayers at gatherings, and lived with integrity that inspired those around him. His faith was not just spoken, it was lived, and it left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Joe was a true and faithful husband, a supportive and involved father, and a proud and caring grandfather. His love for his family was evident in every action, from building a home with care and attentiveness to mentoring younger generations with encouragement and wisdom. Whether it was caring for his mother, welcoming new family members, or simply offering a helping hand, Joe’s presence was a source of comfort and strength. He was a role model whose high standards and strong work ethic shaped the lives of many.
He had a deep connection to the land, enjoying time outdoors hunting and fishing, and taking pride in maintaining his property. These moments created cherished memories for those who shared them with him.
Joe’s legacy is one of love, collaboration, and respect. He made people feel welcome, was generous with his time, and lived with a strength of character that will continue to guide and inspire. His memory will live on in the stories told, the values passed down, and the love he gave so freely.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Debra Garvin (Pendleton), his rock and partner in life's journey; his daughter, Jessica Perkins, and his son, Adam (Stephanie) Garvin, who both will carry forward his legacy of love and strength; and his father, Alexander (Jean) Garvin, who instilled in him a strong work ethic and love of the outdoors. Joe's joy was multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren, Sadie Perkins, William Garvin, and Samuel Garvin, who will grow up with cherished memories of their papa's love and guidance.
Joe's siblings, Michael (Sherry) Garvin, Bonnie (Elmer) Tappen, Nancy Garcia, Suzanne (Dale) Wrightam, and Kenneth (Nadine) Garvin, will remember him as the big brother who was always there with a helping hand and a generous heart. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Garvin (Swidorski), with whom he now rests in peace.
Though we mourn the loss of Joseph Garvin, we also celebrate a life well-lived, a race well-run, and a soul returned to his Creator. We take comfort in the knowledge that Joe's legacy will continue to live on through the lives he touched and the love he shared. Rest in peace, dear Joe, until we meet again in the glory of our Father's kingdom.
Funeral mass will be held at Saint Anne Church in Edenville, MI on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 11:00 am with visitation starting at 10:00 am and lunch following. Joe asked that donations honoring his memory be made to the Right to Life of Michigan (rtl.org/donate) and the Life Choices Resource Center (chooselifeconnection.org/donate); two organizations sharing Joe's conviction for protecting the unborn.
