Obituary of Camellia Joy Amburgey
Camellia Joy Amburgey, a vivacious and spirited soul, danced her way into the arms of her Savior on September 12, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on April 3, 1952, in the heart of Flint, MI, Camellia was a woman of deep faith, guided by her strong Christian beliefs throughout her life.
Camellia's journey was one of love, strength, and a touch of sass that could light up any room. She often introduced herself with a twinkle in her eye, saying, "A rose by any other name is a Camellia," capturing her unique blend of elegance and feistiness. Her favorite quip, "If I can't make a mistake, I'll make one up!" never failed to bring a smile to those around her.
A proud alumna of Mott Community College, Camellia achieved her Registered Nursing degree, dedicating her life to caring for others with compassion and expertise. Her nurturing spirit extended to her family, where she was a devoted wife to her late husband, Bruce Amburgey, whom she married in 1975. Together, they built a beautiful family, blessed with seven children and thirteen grandchildren who filled her life with joy and laughter.
Her children, Carie (Scott) Shiffer, Bruce Amburgey, Sharie Murray, Andrea (Jon) Groulx, Joanna (Claude) Bailey, Bradley Tomlinson, and Kyle Amburgey, carry forward her legacy of love and resilience. Her grandchildren, Jade, Madison, Kevin, Benjamin, Easton, Kainen, Braylon, Donavyn, Ashtyn, Troyton, Cain, Abel, and Remington, will forever cherish the memories of their sassy and spicy grandmother who inspired them to embrace life with courage and humor.
Camellia is also survived by her siblings, Gail (Mark) Hattendorf, Bradley (Melanie) Sullivan, Crystal (David) Simone, many nieces and nephews, who shared in the laughter and adventures of a life well-lived. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Eleanore (Pletscher) Sullivan and Eddy Sullivan, who undoubtedly welcomed her into the heavenly embrace.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Camellia's life at a graveside service on September 26, 2025, at 4 PM, at Brookside Cemetery, 121 N. 4th Street, West Branch, MI 48661. Here, we will gather to honor a woman whose spirit was as vibrant as her name and whose legacy will continue to bloom in the hearts of all who knew her.
