Cecil Lisk

Obituary of Cecil John Lisk

Cecil John Lisk, affectionately known as “CJ” to his friends and family, lived a remarkable life filled with service, love, and laughter. Born on May 28, 1925, in Bay City, Michigan, CJ was a true son of his beloved city.   He left the world as he lived in it, peacefully and on his own terms, on September 22, 2025, at the grand age of 100.

CJ's early years were marked by a fierce patriotism which led him to serve as a World War II Army Ranger from 1943 to 1947, including the historic Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of Hurtgen Forest, he fought valiantly for the freedoms we hold dear. His military service was a profound chapter of his life, shaping the resilient and courageous man he would continue to be.

After his honorable discharge from the Army as a staff sergeant, CJ returned to Bay City where he married Marion (Pat) Lisk, who proceeded him in death. He went on to purchase Riverside Truck and Storage from his father-in-law.  For over half a century, he was at the helm of this successful business, demonstrating his intelligence and kind-hearted leadership. Those who worked with him knew CJ as a fair and loving employer whose door was always open.

His loving spirit is carried on by his surviving family, including his daughter, Barbara Potter, Susan Turmell and her husband Mike; his son, John Lisk; his grandchildren, Jennifer Srock (James), Eric Walraven (Erin), Merrilyn Walraven, and Shane Lisk; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  For over thirty years, Donna Tardiff remained his loving companion, sharing in his passions and his humor.

A recreational golfer, CJ could often be found on the greens, enjoying both the camaraderie of the game and the beauty of nature. His zest for life shone brightly when he went dancing with Donna, a testament to their enduring love and the joy they found in each other's company. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye, and he cherished every moment spent with them, often reminding them with a twinkle in his eye, "you don't have to be crazy, but it helps."

CJ will be remembered as a loving, kind, and intelligent man who embraced life's adventures with open arms. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." CJ embodied this sentiment in every aspect of his life, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched.

As we bid farewell to Cecil John Lisk, we celebrate a life well-lived, a legacy of love, and the countless memories he has gifted us. His was a life that exemplified the beauty of simplicity, the strength of character, and the power of a kind word. CJ's story is not one of an ending, but a timeless reminder of the impact one life can have on many.  To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com  Arrangements made with the Cremation Society of Mid Michigan.
