Obituary of Gwendolyn Ann Gettmann
Gwendolyn Ann (Davies) Gettmann, known to all as Gwen, completed her journey on earth and entered Heaven on October 28, 2025. Born on March 8, 1937, in Chicago, IL, Gwen's life was one of love, faith, and dedication, which she carried with her to her final days in Saginaw, Michigan.
Gwen's legacy is one of boundless love and commitment to her family. She was the cherished wife of the late John Gettmann, and together they built a life filled with joy and purpose. Her love story continued through her children, Cheryl and Ronald Jarvi, James and Linda Gettmann, Susan and Michael Sherfield, Lynda and Leon Goorabian, and Cynthia and John Orito. Gwen's heart multiplied with each of her 17 grandchildren and their spouses, and the blessings continued with 28 great-grandchildren. Her warmth and love will also be missed by her sister, Carol Clark, and the many nieces and nephews who benefited from her wisdom. She was preceded in passing by her father, Phillip Charles Davies, mother, Florence Petersen Davies, and siblings, Joyce Hurner, Norma Weikel, and Richard Davies.
Gwen's passion for education and nurturing young minds was evident in her academic achievements. After graduating from Taylor University in Indiana with a degree in Elementary Education in 1959, she furthered her expertise with a master's degree in Reading from Fresno Pacific University. Her dedication to learning and teaching guided her through various roles in life, including her cherished time as a missionary with her husband in Irian Jaya, Indonesia, now known as Papua. Gwen's heart for service was also mirrored in her professional life as a devoted elementary and middle school teacher, a real estate agent, and a retail worker. Yet, she felt her true calling was as a wife, mother, and grandmother.
A woman of deep Christian faith, Gwen's life was a living example of the love and grace of God. She shared her faith not only through her words but through her actions, touching the lives of all who knew her. Gwen's interests were a reflection of her inner beauty and creativity. She found joy in sewing, knitting, and reading, but she especially loved writing poetry that celebrated the lives and milestones of those around her.
Gwen was a faith-filled, passionate, and loving woman who prayed faithfully for those she knew and those she didn't. Her life was dedicated to bringing people to the Lord through action and prayer, and once she knew of a need, she was on her knees. To know Gwen was to know kindness, to feel encouragement, and to witness a servant's heart. Her spirit, a blend of compassion and unwavering devotion, will continue to live on in the memories of those she touched.
As we say goodbye to Gwendolyn Ann Gettmann, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a race well-run. Gwen is now experiencing peace in the arms of her Creator, and she will forever be remembered as a woman who loved Jesus above anyone or anything else.
