Obituary of Karen Nickl Miller

Karen "Penny" Nickl Miller, age 77, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, in Fairgrove, Michigan. Born on December 25, 1947, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she brought warmth and joy into the world on Christmas Day—a fitting beginning for someone who would become a cherished presence in the lives of so many.

Penny was the beloved daughter of Helen and Harry Nickl. She later married John A. Miller, with whom she shared a devoted and loving partnership until his passing. Together, they built a life centered around family and community.

Professionally, Penny dedicated her time and talents to the Akron-Fairgrove School System, where she worked as a paraprofessional. Her work reflected her caring nature and commitment to supporting students and educators alike.

Family was at the heart of Penny’s life. She was a loving mother to her sons John A. Miller Jr. and Joseph E. Miller. She welcomed their wives, Denice Miller and Kristy Miller, into the family with open arms. Penny found immense joy in being a grandmother to Emma and Parker Miller, children of John Jr. and Denice; and Mallory Vial (Gio) and Kylee Miller, daughters of Joseph and Kristy.

Penny treasured spending time with her family above all else. Whether gathered for holidays or everyday moments, she found happiness in their company. She also enjoyed casino trips—an activity that brought her excitement and fun throughout the years.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Penny's memory will be lovingly carried forward by those who knew her best.
