Obituary of Mildred Marsh Ladd
Mildred Rebecca Marsh Ladd, lovingly known as Millie to her friends and family, was called home to the Lord on November 3, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on June 6, 1934, in Charlottesville, VA, she was the cherished youngest child of the late Annie Mae (Hunt) Marsh and Thomas Smith Marsh. Millie's final days were spent in East Lansing, MI, surrounded by the love and care of her family until she peacefully passed away due to complications from Lewy Body Dementia.
Millie's life was one of devotion, service, and joy. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Edward Washington Ladd, Jr., and her eleven siblings, Hilary, Wilmer, Harold, Lawrence, Lee, Elizabeth Hunt, Edith Herring, Myrtle Gibson, Lucille Ward, Alma Bartholow, and Marjorie Ladd. Her legacy continues through her loving children, Marsha (Ladd) Madle (Richard) and Jeffrey Scott Ladd (Lois); her cherished grandchildren, Lauren (Madle) Givan (Shawn), Bryan Franklin Madle (Sarah), Erin (Ladd) Greene, Matt Smith (Tiffanie), and Bethany (Ladd) Collins (Chris); along with her adored seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Millie's journey of faith and learning began at Meriwether Lewis School in Ivy, VA, where she graduated in 1952. Her career started at Acme, a manufacturer of filing systems and office furniture in Crozet, VA. After relocating to Derwood, MD, with her husband and young daughter in 1961, she soon became a respected member of the team at Maryland National Bank (later Bank of America) in Rockville, MD. Her love for her work shone brightly as she advanced from bookkeeper to head teller over her 30 years of dedicated service, retiring in 1992.
A steadfast Christian, Millie was a charter member of Redland Baptist Church in Derwood, MD, where she supported her husband in his role as deacon. Her joyful voice was a staple in the church choir, and she participated wholeheartedly in various church activities. Utilizing her professional skills, Millie also assisted the church treasurer with the offering count on Sunday mornings, a testament to her generosity and faith-filled spirit.
Millie's life was characterized by her loving nature, her generous heart, and her unwavering faith. She found joy in the simple pleasures of spending time with her family and serving her church community. Her warm presence will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know her. As we remember Millie, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, service, and devotion to her family and faith.
