Obituary of Barbara Katharine Schlosser
Barbara Katharine (Miner) Schlosser, also known as Mime to her friends and family, went to be with Jesus on November 26, 2025, after a short battle with cancer.
She was born on October 19, 1940, in Genesee County, Michigan to Clara Edith and Howard W. Miner. On January 2, 1960, she married Robert ("Bob") Edmund Schlosser, and they celebrated over 50 years together. Both parents and her husband preceded her in death.
Barbara enjoyed many interests and activities throughout her blessed lifetime. She was recognized by the Michigan Association of American Mothers, Inc. and the Governor of Michigan as Mother of the Year in 1996, and was honored to be the President of the Michigan Chapter of Women's Aglow. She was very active in her church and devoted special time every day to reading her Bible and praying for friends and family. She spent hours canning, and teaching others to can and preserve everything from chicken and salmon to jams and jellies.
Barb loved to knit! She learned from her mother-in-law, and her pet project was beautiful Christmas stockings. She made over 125 stockings for family and friends throughout the course of her lifetime.
She and Bob founded the King's Kids French Fries concession in 1979 with the help of her children, quickly becoming "famous in their hometown" for fresh potato French fries and lemonade. Today, the legacy continues under the name "Red Barn Fries,” and six generations have been involved in the business to date.
Barbara lived all her adult life in Midland, Michigan until Bob retired from the Midland City Police Department, after which they wintered in the Florida Keys—fishing, boating and playing beach bum. In recent years, she spent hours at Ace Hardware, decorating the front windows and working the Cops and Donuts counter. She also loved working and volunteering at Toni and Trish House.
Barbara will be dearly missed by her family and her many friends at Riverside Place and at Christian Celebration Center, her home church for nearly 50 years.
She is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Joseph and Julie Podboy, and four sons: Doug (Sherry) Schlosser, Rob (Patty) Schlosser, Jerry Schlosser, and Scott (Lisa) Schlosser. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 3 great, great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her sisters, Ollie Young and Fran Myers, her brother, Hank Miner, her daughter-in-law, Tami Schlosser, and her great granddaughter, Paisley Grace Schlosser.
In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to Toni and Trish House, 4699 11 Mile Rd, Auburn, MI 48611.
A celebration of her life is planned for June 13, 2026 at Christian Celebration Center. To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com Arrangements made with the Cremation Society of Mid Michigan.
