Jack Battin

Obituary of Jack Arthur Battin

Jack Battin, age 90, of Prescott, Michigan, formerly of Grand Blanc and Vernon, Michigan, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025. He was born on September 5, 1935, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Ward and Charlotte (Thompson) Battin.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Vincent Battin, and his daughter, Katheryn Battin.

Jack was honored and recognized as a father figure, role model, and mentor to friends and family alike.

Jack was a devoted family man — a true “jack of all trades,” a proud U.S. Air Force veteran, lay minister, and UAW Chaplain for Lansing GM for 18 years. He retired after 36 years of service as an inspector. While serving in the Air Force as a weapons armament mechanic, he received the National Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Jack loved fishing and hunting and especially excelled at archery. He was always inventing or modifying things. His hobbies included making fishing lures, axe throwing, and inventing new ways to have fun.

Jack married his surviving wife, Patricia (Sullivan) Battin, on January 18, 1964. During their 63 years together, they raised a family of eight — including a few “bonus kids” along the way: Katheryn, Victor, Mary, Jackie II, Michael, Tanya, Bonnie, and Margo, along with their extended family children Kamera and Tamera, plus many cherished church kids — all welcomed with open arms.

His 10 grandchildren squealed with delight at his roaring, chest-beating playful antics, chasing them and embracing them in long bear hugs.
Grandchildren: Zachary, Austin, Jared, Lindsey, Kelsey, Kameron, Nikkita, Kara, and Josh.

He also lovingly treated CJ and Dawn, the children of dear friends, as his own grandchildren — not by blood, but by heart.

Jack loved his Lord and Savior with all his heart. As a faithful member of Durand Church of God, Haslett House of Prayer, and West Branch Church of God, he served as an Elder, Hospital Chaplain, Pastoral Council member, and Mission Team member. His ministries included youth outreach, homeless outreach, Carriage Town in Flint, Channel 49 Phone Prayer Partner in Saginaw, Judson Baptist Church in Flint, Mount Hope New Directions Prison Ministries in Lansing, and lastly the West Branch Horizon Senior Center, where he led worship services and lovingly hugged and prayed for the members.

His big chair may now be empty, but he will always reside in our hearts.
He was the greatest gift to so many of us, and he will be deeply missed.
