Obituary of James Andrew Spencer

James Andrew Spencer, known affectionately as Jim to his friends and family, passed away on December 30, 2025, at the age of 69, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born on January 16, 1956, in West Branch, Michigan, Jim was a beacon of strength and love to all who knew him. His final days were spent surrounded by his loving family in Caro, Michigan, where he was warmly embraced by the community.

Jim leaves behind a legacy of devotion and warmth, epitomized by his cherished wife of 51 years, Cindy (Fader) Spencer. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love and mutual respect. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including daughter Stacy (Brian) Gilmore, son Michael (Jen) Spencer, daughter Jamie Spencer (Jason), and daughter Ashley (Jason) Profit. Grandkids: Carissa (Matt) Marrs, Mersaides (Tyler) Gilmore, Xander Gilmore, Abby (Cody) Spencer, Hayley (Joey) Spencer, Morgan (Micah) Spencer, Elliana (Gabe) Spencer, Noah Marrs, Violet Marrs, Michaela (Austin) Filcek, Lexi Profit, Andrew Filcek, Arthur Filcek. Jim's role as a grandfather was one of his greatest joys, and he was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry forward his spirit and values.

The son of the late William and Ida (Gugel) Spencer, Jim grew up in a lively household with his siblings Becky (Gerry) Survant, Peg Nichols, Bill (Tracey) Spencer, Jennie (Matt) Rose, Art Spencer, and Kim (Bill) Clemens. The bonds he shared with his siblings were unbreakable, and they will continue to honor his memory in their hearts.

After graduating from Whittemore-Prescott High School, Jim embarked on a career that would span four decades. He was a skilled tool and die maker and then transitioned to a CMM Programmer, a profession that showcased his meticulous attention to detail and problem-solving abilities. Jim's dedication to his craft earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues during his long tenure at General Motors, to which he dedicated 40 years of loyal service.

Jim was a man of many passions. He was an ardent fan of Nascar and never missed an opportunity to root for the Detroit Lions, no matter the season's outcome. Camping was more than a pastime for Jim; it was a way to connect with nature and his loved ones. Hardwood Lake Campground was a favorite retreat, where he created countless cherished memories with family and friends. His love for fishing was not just about the catch but about the serene moments shared with his grandchildren, who will forever remember the patience and joy he brought to every cast.

Described as loving, courageous, and passionate, Jim approached life with a fervor that inspired those around him. His courage in the face of illness was a true reflection of his character, and his passion for life's simple pleasures was infectious. Jim's love for his family was the cornerstone of his existence, and it is this love that will continue to guide them through the days ahead.

As we say goodbye to James Andrew Spencer, we celebrate a life well-lived, a heart well-loved, and a legacy that will endure. Jim's journey on earth may have concluded, but his story will be told for generations to come, through the lives he touched and the love he so freely gave.
