Obituary of Stephen D. Howell

Stephen Dennis Howell, age 80, of Midland went to be with his Lord on December 15, 2025. The eldest child of the late Russell Howell and the late Phyllis Howell. Stephen was born in Des Moines on May 13, 1945. He graduated from high school in Des Moines, IA and went on to further his education by obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree from Simpson College, then a Master's degree in Secondary School Administration and Educational Specialist Degree from Central Michigan University.  He worked for various school districts as teacher, principal, football coach and administrator. He was affectionately known as " Coach" by his students in Twining, MI and even attended their latest class reunion in August. He retired from his dream job as principal on the Island of Kwajelein in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. He moved back to Michigan, but spent the winters in Arizona. Stephen was an avid reader who enjoyed reading at least 2 newspapers a day. He also read countless books. Stephen walked 5 miles a day whereever he was, rain or shine and especially enjoyed walking in the Arizona desert. Stephen enjoyed golfing, deep sea fishing and playing cards. He married his best friend Donna on February 14, 1990 on the Tridge where they had gone on their first date. 

 Stephen is survived by his family Debby Augustine, Carrie Howell, Bonnie (Donald) Whaley and Marcus Howell. Grandchildren Matthew Lyon, Joshua (Kate Bradshaw) Lyon, Stephanie Wilson, Rita Wilson, Hope Wilson, Ella Wilson, LeeAnn (Gage) Gall and Mitchell Whaley. Great granddaughter Fiona. Siblings Charlene (Ron) Oldt and Greg Howell. Cremation has taken place at Stephen's request.
