Obituary of Janet Marie Horvath
Janet Marie Esper Horvath, age 72, of Owosso, passed away peacefully January 8, 2026 surrounded by family.
Janet was born on April 23,1953 in Marlette, MI. She was the fourth of seven children born to Leo John Esper and Helen Eileen Stock Esper.
Janet graduated from St. Paul High School in Owosso, Class of 1971. Janet graduated with high honors from Mott Community College, with an associate degree in nursing, in 1976. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Michigan – Flint in 1983.
Janet was an avid reader and an avid gardener.
She worked at Hurley Medical Center for several years, primarily in the Burn Unit. She also worked for several years at Memorial Healthcare, primarily in Home Health and Hospice.
Janet married her high school sweetheart, John Horvath, on December 22, 1975. They had two children, Gregory John Horvath and Jessica Anne Horvath.
John Horvath predeceased Janet on March 29, 2019.
Survivors include Gregory Horvath, Jessica and Sean Fitzpatrick, and most precious granddaughter Cassidy Joan Fitzpatrick.
Her siblings are Margaret (Bill) Westerman, John (Kathy) Esper, Paul Esper, Elizabeth Esper, Mark Esper (predeceased Janet), Tom (Kim) Esper.
Janet’s ashes will be scattered where her husband’s ashes are.
Janet and John traveled to London, Paris, Brussels, Bruges, Amsterdam, Rome, Florence, and Venice. Janet and John also bicycled across Michigan four times on the PALM (Pedal Across Lower Michigan) ride.
Janet and a high school friend hiked from southern France across Spain on the Camino de Santiago to the Atlantic Ocean in 2021.
Janet and that same friend hiked around the Canadian province, Prince Edward Island, in 2023. “Always choose the smallest province.”
