Obituary of Shane Michael Gontko
Shane Michael Gontko, a man of adventurous spirit and loving heart, passed away on January 10, 2026, surrounded by his family, at the age of 39. Born on April 18, 1986, in Bay City, MI, Shane's enthusiasm for life and his unwavering love for his family defined his remarkable journey on this earth.
Shane's legacy is carried on by his children, Nathen, Kyle, Camren, Noah, Lilliana, and Priscilla Gontko, who were the pride and joy of his life. His infectious laughter will forever echo in their hearts. Shane is also survived by his mother, Kristina Gontko, his siblings, Ryan King, Desiree (Andy Piechotte) King, and Tya Orr who have lost not just a brother but a true friend whose support and camaraderie knew no bounds; his grandparents, Sherry & Edwin LaBerge and Sheri Perez; along with his aunts, Tessa & Sara LaBerge; special aunts, Amy LaBerge and Libby Badour; and uncles, Scott & Eric Gontko, all of whom will remember Shane, countless cherished memories, and the warmth and laughter he brought to any gathering.
Also surviving are his nieces and nephews, Olivia King, Richard Shimmel Jr., Graycelynn Shimmel, and Neveah King, and Owen Piechotte who will miss their uncle's infectious energy and adventurous nature. As Shane's life-long friend, side kick, and accomplice Duane (Brenda) Winchell knows best the energetic and magnetic personality Shane embodied. To Know Shane was to love Shane.
Shane had a multitude of cousins, aunts, uncles, family members, and friends that will miss him.
Shane was preceded in death by his best friend, Dave Ferranti; and his beloved family members Aunt Kim, Aunt Sue, Uncle Al, Uncle Brian, Uncle Chris, Grandpa Bob, and Great Grandparents Connie & Bernard LaBerge. Their guidance and love helped shaped the man Shane became, and their memory served as a guiding light throughout his life.
An avid outdoorsman, Shane's love for hunting and fishing was more than a hobby, it was a passion to his appreciation for nature and the simple joys of life. His spirited approach to these pursuits was infectious and inspired all who joined him to embrace the beauty of the wilderness.
Shane's life was a testament to the power of love and the strength of the human spirit. His adventurous nature led him to explore, to seek out new experiences, and to cherish each moment. His loving nature was evident in the way he cared for his family, the depth of his friendships, and his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
As we bid farewell to Shane, we celebrate a life lived with passion and purpose. His memory will continue to inspire us to approach each day with the same adventurous and spirited outlook that he embodied. Shane Michael Gontko's story is one of love, laughter, and the indomitable spirit of adventure that will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A Gathering and Luncheon will be held from 12 Noon - 7 pm, February 8, 2026, at Bangor Township Hall, 3921 Wheeler Road, Bay City, MI 48706. With a prayer service being held at 2:30pm officiated by Pastor Nancy Casper.
