Obituary of John David McMorris, Jr.
John David McMorris Jr., a man whose laughter was as hearty as his love for the great outdoors, has taken his final bow on the stage of life on January 13, 2026, at the age of 70. Born in Flint, Michigan, on January 10, 1956, John's journey was one marked by joy, generosity, and the kind of humor that could light up even the cloudiest of Michigan days.
John's life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and the occasional tall tale. His wife, Michelle McMorris, was not just his partner but his greatest audience, often found rolling her eyes with affection at his latest jokes. John leaves behind daughters, Angela (Kris) Myers and Andrea (Nick) Bennett, who inherited their father's wit and warmth. Johns daughters blessed him with the joyful additions of 3 grandchildren, Samantha Myers, Emmett Bennett, and Elsie Bennett, who cherished their grandfather's playful spirit and endless stories. Though his sisters Jackie Chrenko (deceased), Freda Worden, and Marjorie Warkins, along with brothers David "Bud" McMorris (deceased), Donald "Fuzz" McMorris (deceased), and Russell McMorris, could attest that John's humor was a family trait, it was clear he had honed it to an art form. His nieces, nephews, and the entire family could always count on "Uncle John" for a laugh and a loving nudge in the right direction.
After a fulfilling career at General Motors - Metal Fab, John didn't hang up his hat; he simply traded it for his beloved hunter's cap. He was in his element, whether at "Da Cabin" or his hunting property, affectionately dubbed "Tickville." His love for hunting was only paralleled by the joy he found in sharing his passion with others, especially his granddaughter Samantha, who became his favorite hunting buddy and playmate. John was a man who lived his life like he told his jokes: fully, with gusto, and without apologies. He was the embodiment of words like funny, generous, and thoughtful. Each encounter with John left you a little lighter and a lot happier, knowing you had just been in the presence of someone who truly understood the art of living.
As we say our goodbyes, let’s remember John as he would have wanted: with a smile on our faces and a readiness to share a kind word or a joke in his honor. His legacy is not merely in the stories he told but in the countless moments of joy he brought to everyone around him. John David McMorris Jr.'s curtain may have closed in Saginaw, Michigan, but the echoes of his laughter will resonate in our hearts forever. Rest easy, John, and may the forests of heaven be as bountiful and as beautiful as the ones you cherished here on earth. "cheers Pop Pops" A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2026.
