Robert Cooley

Obituary of Robert Leroy Cooley

Robert Leroy Cooley, known affectionately as Leroy to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, at the age of 62. Born on April 30, 1963, in Bay City, he was a lifelong resident who made a lasting impact on his community. Leroy's life was one marked by intelligence, selflessness, and a quiet strength that endeared him to all who knew him.

Leroy leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted wife, Jennifer Cooley, and his cherished daughters, Brittany Fent and Chelsea Cooley. He was a beloved brother to Jeanette Philopulos, Linda Switala, Raymond Cooley, and Douglas Cooley. His mother, Linda Cooley, will remember him as a son who brought immense pride and joy into her life. Leroy also held a special place in the hearts of his in-laws, Charles Wade, Cynthia Green, Patti Sanders, Kelly Leidlein, Sharon Heeke, and Jeffrey Wade, as well as his many nieces and nephews who will miss his guidance and gentle presence.

An intelligent man, Leroy's wisdom was often sought after by those around him. He approached life's challenges with a level head and a compassionate heart, always willing to lend an ear or a helping hand. His selfless nature was evident in the way he prioritized the needs of others above his own, making him a pillar of support within his family and circle of friends.

Leroy's interests were simple yet fulfilling. He relished the freedom of bike riding, feeling the wind on his face as he explored the scenic routes around Bay City. He was also an avid card player. These activities were more than hobbies; they were avenues through which Leroy connected with others and shared laughter and joy.

His legacy will live on in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know him and in the love he gave so freely. Leroy's passing is not only a loss to his family but to the entire community that was better for his presence.

We will gather to honor and celebrate Leroy's life, remembering the man who taught us so much about kindness, dedication, and the quiet strength that lies in selflessness. (At a later date) He will be deeply missed, but the light he brought into the world will continue to shine in the hearts of those he loved. Rest in peace, Leroy; your journey here is complete, but your story will continue to inspire us all.

We would like to include a special thank you to Kevin Munson with Mclaren Hospice and Leroy's very best friends Vicki and Nancy.
