Obituary of Michael Richard Cummings

In Loving Memory of Michael Richard Cummings “Mike” November 25, 1946 – March 13, 2026.

Michael Richard Cummings “Mike,” age 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Prudenville, Michigan, on March 13th, 2026. He was born on November 25, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, to Lewis Henry Cummings and Gladys Maureen Bradshaw Cummings.

A proud member of the United States Air Force, Mike served the 752nd Radar Squadron CADC with dedication before his honorable discharge in 1970. His love for airplanes and technology followed him throughout his life — he was happiest with a tool in his hand or a new machine to explore.  Mike was a journeyman by trade, and that work, along with his love of travel, took him to many countries in Europe, Asia, and South America.

Mike found a deep sense of peace outdoors. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and held a lifelong appreciation for the engineering and history of firearms. Mike was also musically gifted and performed in local bands. One of his most cherished musical memories was playing at his daughter’s wedding.

Whether sitting quietly hunting in the woods, riding a motorcycle, snowmobiling, or feeling the spray of water while racing a fast-moving hydroplane boat, his love of speed, nature, and craftsmanship was a defining part of his life.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Connie Marie Bunn Cummings; his children, Michelle (Tom) Tulgren, Tracy (James Wirgau) Belmore, Jody (Marty) Engelhardt, Lewis Michael Cummings, and Christopher Robin Cummings. Mike was also blessed with thirteen grandchildren, Jeramie Contreras, Justin Belmore, Andrew Hoedel, Marissa (Antoine) Council, Jordan (Sarah) Belmore, Michaela Belmore, Kennady Engelhardt, Caleb, Cooper, Christian, Liam, Sawyer, and Evelyn Cummings, and seven great-grandchildren, Paxlee, Brentlee, Camryn, Makenna, Alaina, Capri, and Morgan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Gladys Cummings, his mother‑in‑law, Evelyn Agnes Bunn, and a very special Aunt Leona Cummings McKinley.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express sympathy are invited to send cards and memorials directly to the family.  To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com  Arrangements made with the Cremation Society of Mid Michigan.
