Obituary of Paul Joel Mattson

Paul Joel Mattson, age 83, of Frankenmuth, MI passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor surrounded by his family.  He was born on December 24, 1942, to the late Albert and Anita (Laurie) Mattson in Ishpeming, MI. Paul was a 1960 graduate of Ishpeming High School.  He attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI and the Apprenticeship School in Saginaw, MI.  He was employed as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer at General Motors in Saginaw where he also taught Apprenticeship.  On June 13, 1964, Paul married Dorothy Anderson of Ishpeming, MI. 

Paul enjoyed being outdoors and his hobbies included: hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking, playing horseshoes, cutting wood, and fixing things.  He loved spending time and making memories with family. 

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; brother Roger Mattson; sisters-in-law Martha Provost and Janet Anderson; and brother-in-law Ronald Provost.  Paul is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son Darin (Kimberly) Mattson of Freeland, MI; daughters Roberta (James) Nagel of Bridgeport, MI and Laurel (Steven) Barnovitz of Hemlock, MI; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Karen Mattson, sister Karen (Robert) MacArt; brothers Miles (Nancy) Mattson and Dean Mattson; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.   

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
