Phil George

Obituary of Phil Rowland George

Phil George went to be with the Lord on April 15, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on April 16, 1948, to George and Rita George. Phil resided in Wakousta, MI, Houghton Lake, MI, Lakeland FL, and most recently DeWitt, MI.

Phil’s early life was one of adventure. Phil’s father was in the Air Force and Phil lived on several military bases in Michigan, Ohio and Alabama. Phil’s family eventually settled their roots in Lansing, Michigan. Phil graduated from Lansing Eastern High School with the Class of 1966 and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Michigan State University in 1970 and later earned his Master's Degree from Michigan State University as well. Phil taught Physical Education at Otto Junior High for 30 years and was a well respected and notable football and wrestling coach during those years.

Phil was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be remembered for a life that brought energy, laughter, and kindness to every room that he entered. Phil was always considered the life of the party with his infectious enthusiasm, memorable laugh, and ability to story tell that was unmatched by any other. Phil had a gift for making people feel seen, included, and inspired others whether in the gym, on the golf course, while fishing or when spending time with his family and friends.

Family was incredibly important to Phil. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Rita George; and his stepfather, Walter Huyck. He is survived by his brothers, Dan George (Mary), George George (Nancy), and Chris Huyck (Melanie); his beloved wife, Judy; his children, Spencer George (Andrea), Donna Ojeda (Armando), and Alan Hover (Kate); as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Taylor Hover (Paige), Keagan Hover (Jaelin), Brenna Hover, Cole Hover, Julian George, Liam George, Hudson George, Nicholas Hover, and Jude Hover.
