Obituary of Jesse Lee England
Jesse Lee Marie England, age 35, of Ypsilanti, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. She was a beloved daughter, sister, and friend whose warmth, curiosity, and deep compassion for others left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Jesse was raised on a family farm in Camden, Michigan, where she spent her earliest years developing a profound love of animals and the natural world. Whether tending to dogs, cats, or chickens, she discovered early on a calling to nurture and protect the creatures and people most vulnerable around her — a calling she would carry throughout her life.
She attended Camden Elementary School before attending Tecumseh Middle and High School. She furthered her education at Washtenaw Community College, then earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Master's Degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University. She channeled that foundation into meaningful work at the EMU Children's Institute, where she dedicated herself to supporting children facing cognitive and behavioral challenges. She had planned to build a career focused entirely on that mission.
Jesse met every challenge that life placed before her with the grace and grit she learned on the farm and from the family who raised her. She was a person of deep feeling and quiet strength, and those who loved her will carry her spirit forward.
She was preceded in death by her uncles, John Baptist and Dick Locke; her grandparents, Glenn and Merle Baptist, and Joe and Myrna England.
She is survived by her mother, Kathy Baptist of Ypsilanti, Michigan; her father, Danny England of Camden, Michigan; her sister, Lauren Blackwood; and her family of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Les (uncle) and Susie (aunt) Jacobs of Cassville, Missouri; Mike (uncle) and daughter Haylee Baptist of Gaithersburg, Maryland; Janet Baptist (aunt) of Wichita, Kansas; and Pat Locke (aunt) of Erie, Kansas.
A funeral Mass will be held at 12 Noon, Saturday, May 9, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 411 Florence Street, Ypsilanti, Michigan 48197. A reception will follow in the Church Hall.
