Obituary of Alan Dale Sian

Alan Dale Sian, known lovingly as Al in life, was born on July 8, 1952, in Midland, Michigan, passed away on July 5, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family. Al lived a life built on strength, loyalty, and steady purpose. He spent 42 years working as a cement foreman and finisher, a career that reflected the very way he approached life. He believed in showing up, doing the job right, and leaving something solid behind for others to depend on. The work he did shaped more than concrete. It helped shape communities, and it stood as a lasting example of the kind of man he was. He was dependable, hardworking, and committed to excellence, and those qualities earned the respect of everyone who knew him. Outside of work, Al embraced life with the energy of a man who understood that every day is a gift worth using well. He was an outdoorsman through and through. He found joy in hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, and boating on the lake. He appreciated fresh air, open water, quiet woods, and the simple satisfaction of being where life felt real and unhurried. These were not just hobbies to him. They were part of the rhythm of a life lived fully and honestly. He also enjoyed playing on his dart leagues, where his competitive spirit and good humor came through in the best possible way. Above all else, Al treasured time with his family and friends. He loved being surrounded by the people who mattered most to him, and he made those moments count. He especially delighted in spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and his face lit up when he was with them. He understood that the greatest legacy is not only what we build with our hands, but what we build in the hearts of the people we love. His family was the center of his world, and he gave them his time, his laughter, his wisdom, and his steady presence. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard Sian and Joy Davis, and by his brothers, Bernard “Butch” Sian and Randy Sian. Though their absence was surely felt deeply, their memory remained part of the family story he carried forward with honor and love. He is survived by his wife, Denise Sian, who shared in his life’s journey and stood beside him through its many seasons. He is also survived by his brother, James (Rebecca) Sian, and his sister, Wanda (Aurthur) Wendt. His children, Charlotte Sian and Brent Grace, Marie Bonnie Bonet and Roger Bartlett, Joy and Ken Kohlhoff, and Alan Sian II, will forever carry forward the strength and spirit of their father. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, each one a living reminder of the love he planted and the family he helped build. Al was generous, funny, and loving. Those words do not simply describe him. They define the way he moved through the world. He gave freely of himself, he brought laughter into the room, and he loved with a sincerity that could be felt by everyone around him. He had a way of making people feel welcome, valued, and understood. His humor could lighten the heaviest day, and his kindness could steady a troubled heart. He was the kind of man who reminded others that life is not measured only by years, but by the courage, joy, and love we bring to those years. His life was a powerful example of what it means to work hard, love deeply, and live with purpose. He did not merely pass through this world. He made his mark on it. He built, he provided, he laughed, he loved, and he left behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him. Though his earthly journey has ended, the impact of his life remains strong. In the memories of his family, in the stories shared by friends, and in the lessons he lived out every day, Al will continue to speak. Per Alan's wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Luncheon will be held on Saturday, July 18, from 2p-4p at Greendale Township Hall, 4750 W. Isabella Rd, Shepherd MI 48883, to congregate and share memories and stories of him. There will also be an after gathering at the home of Alan and Denise at 101 E. Gordonville Rd, with a bonfire, as Al had wished. Anyone who knew him is welcome to come and celebrate his life with us.
