Obituary of Emma Jean Hager

Emma J. Hager, age 76, of Mio passed away Thursday, July 23, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. 

Emma was born February 7, 1950, in West Branch, Michigan, one of six children, to the late Walter and Myrna (Hutchins) Bussey.  She married the love of her life, Gerald Hager, on August 30, 1968, and has missed him terribly since his passing on June 21, 2020.

Emma retired from her position of public guardian so that she could enjoy time with her husband and children, along with focusing on being an exceptional grandmother to her grandchildren.  She was a kind giving woman and was always the first in line to offer a helping hand.

Emma is survived by her children, Shannon (Rip) Lunning and Lonnie Hager, both of Mio; four grandchildren, Tanner and Sierra Lunning, and Andrew and Alex Hager; great grandchild, Sterling Lunning; and sisters, Sharon Canute of Grayling Michigan and Marlena Bass of Milford Michigan.  She was predeceased by her sister Mary Lou Galbraith, and brothers John and Jim Bussey.
