Jerry Coats

Obituary of Jerry Coats

Gerald L. “Jerry” Coats, formerly of Casa Grande, Arizona, and most recently of Chesaning, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the age of 85.

Jerry was born on July 19, 1941, in Millington, Michigan. He was raised alongside his twelve brothers and sisters and graduated from Vassar High School with the Class of 1959. Following graduation, Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army. During his two years of military service, he was stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist E-4.

After returning home, Jerry began his career at the General Motors Fisher Body Plant in Flint, where he dedicated 24 years of service. It was there that he met the love of his life, Audrey M. (Yeschke) Coats. The couple were united in marriage in November 1979 and lovingly blended their families together.

Following his retirement from General Motors, Jerry and Audrey fulfilled a lifelong dream by relocating to Casa Grande, Arizona. They became devoted members of their church, where Jerry faithfully served as a deacon while Audrey served as the church secretary. Their faith remained the cornerstone of their lives.

Jerry found great joy in traveling and sharing his passion for classic automobiles. He was especially proud of his beautifully restored 1939 Chevrolet Coupe, which earned numerous trophies and awards at car shows throughout the years.

More than anything, Jerry treasured his family. He looked forward to every family gathering and found his greatest happiness in being surrounded by those he loved. As their family grew to include many great-grandchildren, Jerry and Audrey returned to Michigan, making their home in Chesaning, where they established a new church family and enjoyed being closer to their loved ones.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Audrey M. (Yeschke) Coats; his children, Shelly Coats, Kay Love, Jessica Vazquez, Tom Wiefenbach, Junita “Bunnie” Sibiski, Pamela Miller (John), and Alan Worstenholm (Julie); 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and two more great-grandchildren expected soon.

He is also survived by his sisters, Dodie Hazelwood and Thelma Weeks, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and cherished friends.

Jerry will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his deep love for his family, his gentle and generous spirit, and his lifelong passion for classic cars. His legacy of love, service, and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
