Q: What did John like to do in their free time?
A: I grew up in the 60s and 70s next door to Scotty and his family. His son Brian and I were childhood freinds . I have many memories of Scotty working on his cars and other projects in his backyard. I was always impressed, because Mr. Milliman knew how to do just about everything. I was amazed when he cut a car in half with his torch.
The Milliman's always had several sailboats. Scotty and Shirley, definitely spread their love of sailing to their kids. Scotty and Shirley took Brian and I out on Saginaw Bay for a ride on their large family sailboat. It was very apparent to me that Scotty was very happy and at peace when sailing.
My condolences to Bob, Cheryl, Brian, and Family.

Q: How did you meet John?
A: I had Mr. Milliman for a science teacher at Central in the early 70s. He was for sure one of my favorites. I can't remember anyone who didn't like him. I later became the boys swimming coach in the 80s and it amazed me that he was still so upbeat and popular with everyone. He was definitely a people person and someone who stands out in our memories.

In addition to being a terrific teacher he was just a high-quality human being.

Mr. Milliman was my favorite teacher at Central for Biology! He was funny and happy every day, which now I know, he must have loved his job. Although I wasn't the best student, he made learning more fun by keeping the mood light. Even if many of us didn't do well, he tried very hard for us to learn the concepts. IF I recall, it was third floor, Room 310? Rest in peace now. Class of 86 - Kathy Davis-Young

Mr. Milliman was a wonderful teacher. He had a great sense of humor but also made sure you really knew biology. He made an impact on me and many other kids. It sounds like he had an interesting life too. Rest in peace.

My thoughts, prayers and condolences to the families of Mr. "Scotty" Milliman. I had the pleasure of learning your knowledge for Earth Science at Central High School in the 1970's. I learned so much from you, and that stayed with me through college and my lifetime! Rest in peace my friend......

Mr. Milliman was my favorite teacher. I was at Central in the mid 70's. I never missed his class. I will always remember him saying "One of these days you are going to wake up and find yourself dead". I use his saying on my kids today. I am sorry to hear about his passing. He was a great teacher!

My condolences and prayers go out to your family. I had the pleasure to have your father as my teacher back in the 80's. He was by far my favorite teacher. I will always remember how he enthusiastically greeted us and started his class by saying, "good morning sports'fans and nature lovers." Many thank yous to your father for some wonderful memories. Q: What will you never forget about John "Scotty"?
A: Mr. Milliman inspired me to chase my dreams of becoming a teacher. His endless overhead notes in Biology kept me on my toes and his sense of humor always kept me in stitches. I lived next door to another great one Mr. Larry Klug and I always loved when the BCC Science Dept would gather to play cards. He was loved by so many students! I remember him as never having a bad day- always smiling. He loved teaching- and his face showed it. Kings play chess on funny green squares!
