Alfred passed away peacefully at home on June 28, 2021 at the age of 68 years. He was born on Just before his graduation from St. Louis High School in1971 he met an Ithaca girl named Becky Patterson. That’s when their 50 year journey together began. They were married on August 12, 1972 in Ithaca.
Al retired from the St. Louis Public School in May of 2015 where he had worked for 20 years as a custodian at Carrie Knause Elementary School. He loved his job and seeing all the little kids every day. He enjoyed many years of playing county league basketball and volley ball. He officiated high school sports for 25 years. He enjoyed snowmobiling, riding his motorcycle, camping, and hunting with friends and family. He especially enjoyed hunting trips with the guys at the Gin Buck in the U.P.
Al was a devoted husband, a beloved brother and uncle, and a loyal friend. He was a genuine guy that always had your back and always kept his word. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Becky; brother, William (Mary) Dickman of St. Louis; sisters, Mary Jo (Ike) Pankhurst of Georgia, Joyce White of Ithaca, Marilyn Trevino and Janice Dickman of St. Louis; brother-in-law, Tom (Mary) Patterson of Alma; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Stephen) Hendon of Grand Ledge, Susan (Jim) Moore of St. Louis, Diane Williams of Stanton, and Deborah Lowell of Alma; and many nieces and nephews who were so very special to him. He loved you all. Al was predeceased by his parents, mother and father-in-law, L.J. (Red) Marybelle Patterson; brother, Richard Dickman; brothers-in-law, Timothy Patterson and Lee Trevino.
An informal Celebration of Life Luncheon will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at the Fred E. Richards VFW Post, 1295 W. Monroe Rd. St. Louis MI. In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to Mid Michigan Hospice or a charity of your choice.
