Obituary of Larry Garth Brownlee
Larry “Shorty” Garth Brownlee, age 79, of Leslie, Michigan, passed away at his home on July 7, 2021, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. His loving wife and caregiver, Cynthia, was at his side singing to him as he eased from this life into the next. Larry was born on October 23, 1941 in Jackson, Michigan to Garth and Geraldine (Watters) Brownlee. Larry grew up in Leslie and graduated from Leslie High School in 1960. He retired from Oldsmobile in 1996, after 33 years. While in good health, he attended daily “union meetings” at The Leslie Depot, or A & W in Mason. Through the course of his life he enjoyed snowmobiling, riding his ATVs on the trails near his cottage in Harrison, and camping with the Cumberland Gap music group. He enjoyed woodworking and attended services at Bible Baptist Church, in Leslie, and Eden United Brethren Church, in Mason.
He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Cynthia (Larner). Larry is also survived by his three children. Shannon (Sean) Tinkle; Lee (April) Brownlee; and Jerry (Becky) Brownlee. Larry and Cynthia were blessed with seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Grandchildren: Joshua (Amanda) Tinkle; Elijah (Iansã) Tinkle; Breeyn Tinkle; Matthew Brownlee; Sarah Brownlee; Malachi (Hannah) Brownlee; Isaac Brownlee; and honorary grandchildren, Sava Treloar and Anthony Leyrer. Great-grandchildren: Kayleigh, Levi, Harlowe, and Kayson. His loving sister, Sheri Lee (David) Dunsmore whom he spoke with on the phone every day, his sister-in-law Pennie Brownlee, and many nieces and nephews. Larry was predeceased by his parents and brothers Lee and Richard Brownlee.
Larry chose cremation and a Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Eden United Brethren Church, 1938 Eden Rd., Mason, MI, with Pastor Christopher Bigg officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. and a Celebration of Life ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m., where we will share stories of his many blessings and shenanigans.
