Obituary of Gloria Ann Britton

Gloria Ann Britton (Markel) of Bay City, Michigan passed peacefully at age 90 on July 24th, 2021. Gloria always spoke of how blessed she was during her time on this earth to have been married to two wonderful men. She married William C. Markel on June 13th, 1956. She married Robert E. Britton on February 8th, 2003 and they shared 16 beautiful years together. Gloria is survived by her sister Ramona “Mona” Nelson of Traverse City, Michigan. She is also survived by her three daughters: Michelle (Jerome) Slebiska, Lisa (Glen) Bertini, & Laurel Markel, three grandchildren: Caitlin (Andrew) Wolf, Roman Bertini & Dante Bertini, and two great grandchildren: Willow & Hope Wolf, three stepchildren: Jeffrey (Susan) Britton, Stephen (Lori) Britton, & Rebecca (Thomas) Benner, seven step grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren all of whom she cherished. Gloria was preceded in death by William C. Markel and Robert E. Britton, sister Lenora Lee “Elinor” Hile, Mother Ruth Duchane and one step grandchild, Andrew Britton. Gloria’s first job was at Kresge Department Store in downtown Bay City. She was an excellent worker and they wanted to promote her to a buyer. However, with the support of Mona, her older sister, she graduated with honors from Central High School and went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Special Education. Gloria worked in the Bay City school system teaching children for over 34 years. She then retired and started her second career in real estate. She was passionate about finding the right home for her clients. The most important thing in Gloria’s life were her family and friends. We will be having a celebration of her life at 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 7th, 2021 at the North Euclid Church of God (3430 North Euclid Avenue, Bay City, MI). Officiating will be Pastor Chris Slosser. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disability Services Resource Center (DSRC), 1820 N.
