Obituary of Geraldine Maxine Vliet

Geraldine Maxine Vliet, age 88, of Lincoln, Michigan passed away on Wednesday August 18, 2021, in Alpena, MI. She was born on April 3, 1933, In Genesee County, Michigan to Constance (Ditch) Pardee and Phineas Pardee. Gerry married Willard Vliet on March 4, 1950. Together they had 11 children, and raised them in Birch Run, Michigan. After nearly 25 years of marriage they divorced and Gerry moved to Northeast Michigan, making Lincoln her home for close to 40 years. Over the years, she worked for the forestry service, the local senior’s center, the Iron Skillet Restaurant, and numerous odd jobs. Geraldine enjoyed socializing, cooking, canning, sewing, and had a great interest and knowledge of holistic, and herbal supplements, and home remedies. Gerry was a friend to all, a “sister”, a “mom” and “grandma” to many. Her home, as well as her heart, were opened to shelter stray animals or any person or being in need. She loved being helpful, to anyone, and in anyway she could. Her greatest joys were spending time with her family and close friends. Geraldine loved to take photos of all occasions, and receiving a picture was one of her most cherished gifts. Geraldine was a, Jehovah’s Witness, she attended The Kingdom Hall and was a member of the Alpena congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She lived her life serving her faith. Surviving her are her children, Diana (Randy) Gerding of Brooksville, FL, Edward Vliet of Skidway Lake, MI, Tonya (Frank) Kimosh of Lincoln, MI, Melvin Vliet of Skidway Lake, MI, Michael Vliet of Davison, MI, Randy (JoAnna) Vliet of Rose City, MI, David (Colleen) Vliet of Barton City, MI, and Paul (Barb) Vliet of Spring Hill, FL; sister, Jill Hutchinson, of Newberry, MI; her beloved 42 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews, all whom she cherished and loved. Preceding her in her death were her sons, Carl Vliet, Jack Vliet, and Willy Vliet; her parents, Constance and Phineas Pardee; her sister, Cora Bond; and her brother, Collins Pardee.
