V. Ray, after a long struggle with much pain, on Monday, August 23, 2021 took Jesus’ hand as the angels led him to heaven. Ray was born on September 18, 1943 in Bay City, Michigan to the late Victor L. and Beryl Schatzer. Ray served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 4 ½ years; his service time being extended two days before he was to be discharged due to the Vietnam Conflict. Ray served aboard the LSD 23 Thomaston during the Cuban Missile Crisis in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Ray was an Amtrak mechanic and he also taught swimming to new recruits. He was a Journeyman Ironworker for 30 years retiring in October 1995. Ray served as an Elder in the Community of Christ Church. He also served in many church leadership capacities. Ray was always willing to lend a helping hand, constantly doing for others until health made it difficult, yet he continued helping as best he could. Ray was a Godly man, a humble servant and a powerful prayer warrior. Ray had a heart of deep, unconditional love for all giving selflessly from this love. He truly lived a deep, Christlike life. Ray married his teenage sweetheart, Arlene (Bellinger) in 1964. They shared 3 children, 10 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Ray was predeceased by his son Scott, his mother, father, stepfather, 2 brothers, and many in laws. Left to cherish Rays loving memories are his wife Arlene; daughters, Rae (Tom) Badour, Andrea (Mark) Johnson; and special daughters, Cathy Pulcifer and Candy Pennell. He is also survived by his loving sister Suzanne (Terry) Biggs. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. at Community of Christ Church, 3301 E. Midland Road, Bay City, Michigan. DUE to COVID-19 restrictions, light refreshments will be offered after the service.
