“Music Man” John Albert Leaman, age 85, died Saturday, September 18, 2021. He was born and raised in Saginaw, graduating from Arthur Hill in 1954. He attended Kalamazoo College in 1958 with his Bachelor’s Degree and then proceeded to Western Michigan University where he received his Master of Arts Degree in 1964. John’s teaching career started at Vanderbilt, Michigan, continued in Carsonville and later Bridgeport, Michigan where he taught music, band, and choir. John also directed choir and bell choirs at numerous churches in the area while teaching private piano and voice lessons up until the end of his life. He worked with music groups and nurtured many talented young persons who loved music and many who continued their musical dreams professionally. As one of John’s students said, “John Leaman had a very kind and gentle soul and was a phenomenal music teacher in the Bridgeport Community.”
John met the love of his life, Doris, in Carsonville, MI. They married August 17, 1963. He is preceded in death by his parents Beatrice and Raymond Leaman also musicians. He is survived by his wife Doris; his son, Noel Leaman and wife Micky; his daughter. Dr. Shelly Kahler and husband Dr. John Kahler. He is also graced with five grandchildren…Jaden, Roman, Calvin, Alexandria, and Leah.
