Obituary of Marvin Duane Stickney

Marvin Duane Stickney Marvin D. Stickney, age 83, died at his home in Vestaburg, MI on October 12, 2021 after a courageous battle with injuries sustained from a snowmobile accident. He was born May 21, 1938 in Duluth, Minnesota, the eldest son of the Late Kenneth Elwin and Mary Fredicka (Shephard) Stickney. In 1946 Stickney family moved River Rouge, MI. A year later, they moved to Taylor, MI where he and his 9 siblings grew up. As a young child, Marvin had rheumatic fever that diminished his normal growth but never hindered his love of life. Marvin met his wife, Barbara Ann Parker while attending Oak Wood SDA church in Melvindale, MI. They were married on April 28 1963. They raised their three children in northeast MI and settled in Vestaburg, MI in 1989. Marvin worked for 30 years and became a foreman for Boiler Makers Local 169 out of Detroit before becoming disabled. He was also a very talented self-taught carpenter. He built four houses from the ground up for his family. He never cut corners or said, “close enough”. Marvin enjoyed working and helping others. He would always be that helping hand to someone in need. He also loved being on golf course and golfing with family. In 1992, Marvin was involved in a snow mobile accident where he nearly lost his life. He was never able to go back to work and had to live the last 29 years of his life suffering from the pain and discomfort resulting from this accident. He was small in stature but had a huge loving heart. He was a greatly loved Man, Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, Grandfather and Friend. Marvin is survived by his wife, Barbara Stickney; a son, James and his wife Esther (Martinez) Stickney; a daughter, Julia Stickney; grandchildren, Sophia (Stickney) and her husband PJ Duhamel; Dino Stickney. Siblings, Kenneth Jr. and his wife Mary Lou (Guajardo) Stickney, Merle Stickney, Paul Stickney, Pamela (Stickney) and her husband Michael Kazarien, Dennis and Mary (unknown) Stickney, Karen (Stickney) and her husband Philip Copeland, David and his wife Silvia (Bullock) Stickney, Mary Kay (Stickney) and her husband Robert Nelson. He was predeceased by a son, Daniel Stickney; a brother, Ronald Stickney; a sister, Barbara Stickney; a sister-in-law Sandra (unknown) Stickney. The Memorial Service and Celebration of Life scheduled for November 6, 2021 has been CANCELLED. The service will be rescheduled for a later date.
