Suzann,
Shocked does not describe how I feel. You have my deepest sympathy and condolences.Charlie was one of the good guys. We had some outrageous times together (trips to Cadillac, double-dating, you and Charlie picking me up in Colorado Springs for Christmas, along with Michael Greenlee and Greg Smith). Beautiful memories. You and your family have been and will continue to be in my prayers. My love to you all...Mike Sventko

It is surreal to be writing this. I first met Chuck at Ferris State 50 years ago. Suzann and I were roommates and they were high school sweethearts who arrived at college the same year I did. Lucky me. Its like I always have known him. It didn't matter how long the times were between seeing each other, when we did see each other it was like instant friendship and fun. Chuck did not suffer fools gladly. If you were in his "pack" you were ok--if not he really didn't waste time with you. I always felt good about being in the pack. He was funny and had the greatest laugh. He laughed at Suzann and I many times. He had a great sense of humor. He was loud. He didn't hesitate being loud--didn't really care who heard it. He did love to debate. His girls loved to debate with him. They were all loud when they were together. I always marveled though at how close knit this family is and how much they obviously love each other. He adored Suzann. Really she was his world. You could see it in the way he looked at her. He loved to tease her. He loved being with her. The last few years were rough for him but I never heard him complain. He was a tough guy. He adored his girls and the grandkids--what a dad and grandpa. What memories you all will have.
Chuck didn't care to go to funerals--hated them in fact. But when my Mom died, he came to the funeral. I know what it took for him to do that and I appreciated it so much. He showed me how he felt about me as a friend for all these years. I will miss him. I I am so sorry and sick about this.

Dear Sue and family,
I was so stunned and saddened too hear of Chuck's passing. I will always remember our times at Tawas Area HS (class of '71), playing sports there (esp. football under coach Guthard senior year), and our times at Ferris as college roommates, going to our first concert together at MSU seeing Elton John(1972), and later seeing The Who at the old Silverdome(1975), and the memorable trip out west together, driving my little two-seater car to Yellowstone (1980)...not easy to get us both into that tiny car...but so much fun!...and so many more memories over the years...
My deepest condolences to all his family and you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Mike Greenlee

We have so many fun memories being your neighbors, from the porch posse, to shared meals, goodies & great garden vegetables, A couple really stand out like when he laid on the sidewalk & let Nate jump over him on his scooter & the Piano Man song. I thought of chuck as a big brother, rather than a uncle. But I have great memories of the times we spent together. He taught me how to drive a stick shift (MG). We rode the same school bus, where he and his friends would pass me to the front then to the back. And playing poker at Grannies. Lots of great memories. You will be missed by all Love to My aunt and cousins as they go thru the loss of a great man. Love you Chuck
