Obituary of Mary Ann Humphrey
MaryAnn Humphrey, our loving sister, aunt, and dear friend, passed away peacefully at Wellspring Lutheran Services in Frankenmuth, Michigan, Sunday, October 31, 2021. MaryAnn was born on August 6, 1941 in Mio, Michigan to Robert and Marian (Briggs) Humphrey. MaryAnn graduated from Mio AuSable High School in 1959. She then attended the Bible Baptist College in Pennsylvania, graduating with a Bachelor of Education degree in 1963.
MaryAnn and her mother were the best of friends. MaryAnn stayed “close to home” for quite a few years, until the opportunity arose for her to become a missionary and teach children in Africa. She taught in Africa for 2 years, returning home to Michigan in 1980, and continued her teaching career at Lupton Bible Baptist Church and School alongside her mother. She taught grades 7 – 12 and also Sunday school for many years. Many of her students remained a big part of her life, keeping in touch with her - even after their graduation. MaryAnn loved children and she felt blessed to call so many of them “hers.” MaryAnn continued to teach well beyond “retirement” age, until her health no longer allowed it.
MaryAnn loved everyone she met and everyone loved HER! She was so kind and genuine. One of her favorite pastimes was to make incredible Christmas Chocolates and give them as gifts. She had the greatest giggle and loved life to the fullest!
She is survived by her brother, Howard (Linda) Humphrey of Vassar, Michigan; a sister, Darlene (Bruce) Lockhart of Englewood, Ohio; nephews, Scott VanWormer, Christopher Hammell, Sean Lockhart, and Cameron Lockhart; niece, Shelley VanWormer; and great-niece, Eden VanWormer; and a very special friend and “roomie” at Wellspring, Natalie Smith. She was predeceased by her parents; grandparents; and infant brother, Robert Charles Humphrey Jr.
She will be missed deeply by her family and friends. We are joyful that she is now in Heaven with her Savior and those that have gone before her. The family would like to thank Wellspring Lutheran Services and Wellspring Hospice for their love and compassion during her illness and time there.
According to MaryAnn’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family is planning a Celebration of Life at 12 Noon, Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Lupton Bible Baptist Church, 3338 Lupton Road, Lupton Michigan.
