Carlos, age 75, our beloved father, uncle, and grandfather passed away November 15, 2021, at Covenant Medical Center in Saginaw, following a brief illness.
Carlos was born on April 20, 1946, in Crystal City, Texas, to the late Gumecindo and Guadalupe (Herrera) Gonzalez. He attended Carrollton Public Schools, graduating in 1965. He married the former Marilu Gonzales on January 19, 1969, and she survives him, as do their children, Selena (Augustin III), Alejandro (Larissa), Senta (Keith), and Jo-el. Also surviving to remember his legacy are his grandchildren, Jericho (Anya), Demetrius, Moses, Cash, and Georgia; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws; and siblings, Alberto (Carol) Gonzalez, Refujia "Fuji" (Robert) Baszler, and Marie Inez Coulter. In addition to his parents, Carlos was predeceased by his nephew, Christopher Gonzalez; siblings, Hilario "Lalo" Gonzalez, Angelita Melcher; and Gumecindo "J.R." Gonzalez; and former sister-in-law, Ann Beth Mell.
At the time of his passing, Carlos was employed as an electrician at Saginaw Metal Castings Operations (Grey Iron Foundry) and was on the seniority list with 54 years of service! Carlos instilled the importance of Hispanic heritage and culture in his children, having all of them participate as Mexican Dancers for years in the local Chicano dance troupe, Ballet Cultural Azteca. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, enjoyed traveling, science fiction, comic books, knots, movies, and foreign cultures and languages.
In accordance with Carlos’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors starting at 9:30 AM on December 7, 2021 at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption, 610 Hoyt, Saginaw, Michigan for a vigil and rosary service. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 AM. With Fr. Andy Booms officiating, and assisted by Dea. Larry Gayton. A reception will be held in the basement following the mass. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Saint Joseph’s section, in Saginaw.
