Obituary of Scott Marvin Martin

Scott M. Martin, age 72, our loving, patient, kind and dependable husband, dad, grandpa, great- grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend passed away at McLaren Bay Region on November 23, 2021 due to complications from Covid after beating lung cancer two times. He was born on May 21, 1949 to the late Jack Martin and Mary Lou (Shelson, Martin) Hall. He is survived by Sandy (Kortz, Gornowicz) Martin and they celebrated 40 years of marriage this year. He attended John Glenn High School. He joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country from 1967-1969. After his service, he worked for Michigan Bell as a lineman and retired from AT&T after 30 years of employment. He loved to golf, play darts, ride his motorcycle, and gamble in Reno and Las Vegas before he developed health problems. When he could no longer participate in those activities, he enjoyed watching all sports on TV, reading books, and growing tomatoes in his garden. His favorite pastime was singing karaoke and he was still able to sing during his illness. He was a member of System 3 Production and he loved traveling with them and performing. He was also a member of Amvets Post # 22 and Eagles Aerie #1010. Scott is also survived by his children and grandchildren, Dr. Scott (Dr. Alison) Martin of Weston, CT and their children Sean, Tom, Tim, Brady and Vicky; Greg (Nicole) Martin of Bay City and their children Erin Martin, Kelsey (Steven) Bergey, Kaden Zimmerman, and Elizabeth Cooper; Julie (Martin) Lyle of Toledo, OH and her son Raymond Lyle. Ann (Paul) Mead of Essexville and their children Taylor (fiance Jaclyn Vigneaux) Mead and Eric Mead, Amy (fiance John and son Brandon Manke) Snyder of Essexville and her children Grant (Sarah Blass) Scheurs, Heather (Jasper) Joyner, and Casey Snyder. His great grandchildren, Ava York, Mason Scheurs, Jayla Anderson, Hayden and Journey Joyner, Mari and Casey Snyder Jr. and Nash Bergey. He had a very special bond with Jayla Anderson whom he helped watch since she was 6 weeks old. They became very good buddies over the past 12 years and she held a special place in his heart. He is survived by his brother John Martin, sisters Sandy (Jim) Bovia and Nancy Grandmaison who all live in Bay City. He is also survived by his brother and sisters-in-law, Gary (Shirley) Kortz of Grand Rapids, Stan (Jan) Kortz of Bay City, Wanda (John) Hagerty of MN, Paula (Brad) Sova of Grand Rapids and Greg (Patti) Kortz of Cheboygan. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends. Scott was predeceased by his brother Ron Martin, stepson Tom Gornowicz, nephew Don Curtis and stepfather Tom Hall. Per Scott’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial service for him after the holidays.
