Obituary of Richard Eugene Brzak
Richard “Dick” Eugene Brzak
Richard “Dick” Brzak of Ashley Michigan was born January 8, 1945 in St. Johns Michigan to Joseph Brzak Sr. and Flossie (Cox) Brzak. He passed away on Sunday February 6, 2022 in St. Louis Michigan.
Dick was a lifelong resident of Ashley, MI where he attended Ashley High School. After high school Dick married Linda Mason and shortly after, was drafted into the United States Army where he was stationed in California until an honorable discharge brought him back home to Ashley and the restart of his career at General Motors. While employed with, and following, his retirement from General Motors, Dick was an active member of the Village of Ashley Fire & Rescue for many years, serving as Chief for some of that time as well as assisting in the establishment of the Rescue. Following his retirement from GM, and never shy of a good day’s work, Dick was employed with the Village of Ashley D.P.W. and Ashley Community Schools as a bus driver. During this time, he was also a coach the girls junior high volleyball team at Ashley. When that didn’t keep him busy enough, he would also moonlight as a security guard at the Soaring Eagle Casino.
Dick enjoyed many hobbies over the years such as watching sporting events on television or in person, especially the Michigan State Spartans. Dick also enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, playing cards with friends and family, trips to numerous casinos, taking walks and anything else that would keep him busy and, not to mention, watching the Michigan Wolverines lose.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law (Bud and Helen Mason), Son Rick Brzak, two brothers and two sisters.
Dick is survived by son Matthew Brzak (Grace Zimmerman) of Ashley, Michigan. Son Kristopher Brzak (Brittaney Doan) of Beaverton, Michigan. Daughter-in-law Sherry Brzak of Ashley, Michigan. Long-time partner and friend Theresa Ward. 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and one on the way, one brother and two sisters, several brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
At this time Dick has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Dick will be laid to rest later this year with his son Rick at the North Star Cemetery in North Star Michigan.
The family would like to extend thanks to the many family members and friends that helped and checked in on Dick in the last few months of his life. Special thanks go to his sister Betty, her son Rod and daughter in law Sarah for opening their home to him in the last month of his life. Special thanks also go to his sister Steph for coming over to help nearly every day and for taking him to the casino to play his drums.
