Obituary of Terrill A. Block

Block, Terrill “Terry” Bay City, MI Terry passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022 with his wife and children at his side. He was 70 years old. Terry was born on October 31, 1951 to the late Peyton “Pete” and Loretta (Murawski) Block in Bay City, MI. Terry graduated from Bay City Central High School and attended Delta College. He enlisted in the National Guard in July 1970, and was sent to Fort Jackson, S. Carolina, where he received a medal for being top marksman in the 17th Battalion. He served until 1976 at the Bay City Armory in the 1436th Engineer Corp and was honorably discharged as an E6. In July 1972, Terry met and later married Joann Sporman on May 10, 1975 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church where Terry and Joann were both lifetime parish members. Terry was employed by Walbro Corporation in Cass City for 26 years as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer and retired in 2008. In 2010, he was hired at Huron Casting Inc. and was a quality engineer there until 2017. He earned his private pilot license in 1982 and often took friends and family for plane rides over Mid-Michigan and the Thumb Area. In the Winter, he did woodworking and built items for his home and family, including cabinets, cedar chests, and pantries, all out of his favorite wood, red oak. In Spring, Summer, and Fall, he could be found fishing on the Saginaw Bay and other inland lakes for walleye and perch. He taught his son and daughter to fish, and later also loved taking his granddaughters out on the boat. Terry leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Joann; son, Christopher and Becky Block; daughter, Laurie and Joel Ferris, all of whom he was very proud of. Terry had three granddaughters, Adelyn Ferris “his sweetie”, Whitney Ferris “his little buddy”, and Brooklyn Block “his baby girl”; sisters and brother-in-law, Joan Block, Jane and David Spyhalski, and Suzanne Beyersdorf. He was predeceased by his brother, Dennis Block; mother and father-in-law, Theresa and Eugene Sporman; brother-in-law Jerry Beyersdor; and nephew, Austin Stevenson. Terry was much loved and will be missed by all. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish “St. Stanislaus Church”, 1503 Kosciuszko Ave., Bay City, MI with Fr. Rick Filary officiating.
